8th distillery joins Ky. Bourbon Trail

- jwarren@herald-leader.com

Bardstown's Tom Moore Distillery, which makes 1792 Ridgemont Reserve bourbon, has been added to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

The distillery was founded by Tom Moore in 1879, and it is now owned and operated by Constellation Spirits. Its super-premium 1792 brand bourbon is named for the year when Kentucky became a state.

Under its new membership in the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, the Tom Moore Distillery will begin offering tours on Oct. 1, according to an announcement by the Kentucky Distillers' Association.

Tours will be offered on weekdays at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Reservations are required and can be made by calling (502) 348-3774 at least a day in advance. Participants must be at least 21 years old.

The distillery plans to open a visitor center in 2010.

Tom Moore is the eighth distillery to join the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, and its membership marks the first expansion of the trail since it was formed with seven members in 1999.

The original trail members were Buffalo Trace, Jim Beam, Four Roses, Heaven Hill, Maker's Mark, Wild Turkey and Woodford Reserve.
