    Exercise rider dies after spill

    SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — An exercise rider for trainer Steve Asmussen died Tuesday after being injured in a riding accident at Saratoga Race Course the previous day.

  • Azul Leon wins Best Pal Stakes after DQ

    DEL MAR, Calif. — Azul Leon won the $150,000 Best Pal Stakes for 2-year-olds at Del Mar on Sunday after Kelly Leak was disqualified for interference. After reviewing videotape of the stretch run, the stewards ruled that Kelly Leak, ridden by Victor Espinoza, bore in and tightened up horses to his inside, which resulted in Charlie's Moment being taken up sharply by jockey Jon Court. Kelly Leak was placed fourth, behind Azul Leon, Coronet of a Baron and Charlie's Moment.
